Background
The co-op was federally incorporated in June 2024, and in Alberta in October, 2025.On November 22, 2025 we will hold our first Annual General Meeting (AGM) and our first Board of Directors will be elected. Currently, the founding members have been acting as the board, and setting the goals, programs and direction of the cooperative.
Our Mission
We were founded with a clear and powerful mission: To enhance traveller experiences while strengthening local communities and the travel, tourism, and heritage sectors. Using a cooperative business structure and following Cooperative Principles we empower members with the cooperative values of self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, equality, solidarity, honesty and openness.
Our vision is to connect travellers with services, tourism opportunities, and heritage information through a cooperative structure where every voice counts and where travellers and industry work together for the benefit of all.
Our Mission
Our Upcoming Mobile App
As our initial primary marketing tool, we are taking over ownership, and rebranding, the former History Check mobile app. This app connects travellers with over 600 Alberta communities. As a federal cooperative we will expand it across Canada. The app offers rich, localized content - historical stories, attractions and services - reducing reliance on fragmented online searches makes it easier for visitors to discover and engage with Alberta’s diverse regions, while supporting local economies.
What is the Board of Directors?
The board will be a group of up to 9 people who work together to govern the Travel-ING On Tourism Cooperative. All terms will be 2 years.
Currently the board will be required to attend meetings at least twice a month via zoom, depending on the level of organizational needs of the co-op. They may be required to sit on one or two committees to support operations and report back to the board. They are also expected to represent the co-op at various travel, heritage, municipal or regional events when required.
Why Stand For Election as a Director?
You will be a trail blazer in creating a space where the travel, tourism and heritage sectors can come together, to meet mutual goals, using the following International Cooperative Principles built on the cooperative values of self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, equality, solidarity, honesty and openness.
-
Voluntary and open membership
-
Democratic member control
-
Member economic participation
-
Autonomy and independence
-
Education, training, and information
-
Cooperation among cooperatives
-
Concern for community
Your input and direction will help guide the co-op towards fulfilling these values across the travel, tourism and heritage industries, giving the sectors options to work together and receive value and benefits that have never before been available to them be. The co-op can play an important and ever-increasing role in the social, economic, historical and environmental sustainability for businesses and organizations across Alberta, and beyond.
Similar to any business, our co-op’s Board works on behalf of our member-owners. What sets us apart is that in a cooperative, the owners are people you know – your friends, neighbours, family, colleagues and collaborators.
